This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Distance learning has taken away the ability to connect with literature in meaningful ways. Without books in their hands, I am so limited in what I can teach. Many have school borrowed laptops that don’t allow the downloading capability to read books together. My hope is to deliver these books to my students' homes as a gift to begin the year reading together.
My Project
This book will be mailed, or delivered if my district allows, to the students in my class so that we can get together in a digital space and have lively discussion about the reading like we used to. This book tackles some very heavy and timely issues that I hope to use to connect us and give them a space to discuss how they are dealing with the world around us. Having a real book in their hands that they can highlight and comment in the margins will give them ownership of the text and inspire thoughtful conversation.
