My Students

My students have a range of academic, social, cognitive, and emotional functioning. They require specialized instruction and accommodations in order to access the curriculum. Despite these classifying descriptors, they are some of the most determined, charismatic, enthusiastic, and caring young people. They deserve every chance they can get. Our school has a very diverse population. We have students that come from two-parent homes, while others are in foster care or group homes. We have students whose parents are financially stable while others live in government-subsidized housing. We aim to create a safe haven for all of our students and help them succeed.

My Project

I seek to provide my students with authentic learning possibilities. I want to provide them with lesser-known board and card games that will require them to read instructions to know how to play. I want to help them see the application of close reading skills.

What better way to improve skills than by having fun!

We will use these games in our Resource Reading class to improve our reading skills. Students will learn how to read instructions and apply them in a whole group setting. Following that guided practice will allow the students to work in groups to read instructions and then apply their learning by playing the game!
