Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students attend a public elementary school in northern California. The majority of my students are English language learners that come from low-income families. Despite the fact that many of my students face challenges, both inside and outside of the classroom, they are enthusiastic about learning.

My students enter the classroom with big hearts and open minds, always ready to learn.

I strive to create an environment where my students feel comfortable enough to engage in the learning process. I want to provide my students with high interest materials to help them have the courage to participate and connect with the learning process.

My Project

My class loves when I read picture books. When the kids make connections the room lights up with excitement. These new books will not only supplement my social-emotional curriculum but will also be used to reinforce language arts standards. The picture books will provide many opportunities for learning through high-interest texts.

Books are not only an important way for kids to make necessary emotional connections to their own life-experiences, but also to think critically and act empathetically toward their classmates, and the unique perspectives that they bring.

I believe that picture books help to ignite the love for reading in a child's life, and may give them the skills they need to become life-long readers and compassionate individuals.
