My Students

Wade Pogany states, "It's about engaging students with technology and using technology as a tool to teach."

My students live in an environment where the high school drop-out rate is well above 50%, yet they push themselves to come to school and be better.

Despite many challenges, my students are enthusiastic and eager to learn. However, given ever-increasing budget constraints, our school does not have the funds to reach the technological needs of our students.

I have nearly 100 students with a wide variety of needs and one of those needs is maintaining their attention during the lessons. Access to working computers to assist in the differentiation of instruction would be a wonderful addition to our classroom.

My Project

My students will use the new books in book clubs and for independent reading. My goal is for them to increase their level of reading and understanding and develop community around reading. When I took a survey of the other teachers in my school and I asked them what hurts our students the most on their state exams, the student's reading ability was the answer I received the most.

One step in improving the reading levels of m students is to make sure that they have access to books that will interest them.

A struggling or resistant reader will more likely be drawn to a book that features someone who looks like them; someone who is experiencing what they are experiencing. Therefore I selected books featuring black and brown students students.
