Reading to Regulate

Help me give my students texts that they can read to help build their emotional intelligence.

My Project

The Black, Latino, Afghani and African middle school students that I work with every single day require a lot more than just a teacher who knows their content. My students face trauma and hardships that are often unimaginable. I want to be able to provide them texts that will help guide them in their journeys.

At times reading a book can be an outlet for emotions that students keep hidden; by providing them a safe space and access to these texts I hope to help show my students they can reach out.

Historically, the students that I teach are lacking supports and school is one of the only places they have to find any. I am not a trained psychologist but I am an adult who can help guide them towards the proper resources and reading books can be a way for them to open up that conversation.

The students I teach are close to my heart and I believe that every single of them deserves the chance to learn how to feel.

Thank you for all your support!
