My Students
I teach at a Charter School in Nashville, TN. 60% of our students are on free or reduced lunch. Nashville is one of the fastest growing cities in the USA. Our school is in the heart of downtown, and our student body reflects the changes in our community! My classroom is composed of so many backgrounds that need to be represented in the literature we are reading!
My students need stories with characters that they can relate to, who will empower them to believe the truth that they can do anything they set their minds to!
I want to diversify our classroom library and provide text that they can connect to!
My Project
I believe in the power of literacy and stories to change the world. My 1st graders in East Nashville, Tennessee come from many diverse backgrounds, ethnicities, and walks of life. I want to provide them with stories that contain characters that look like them and have been through similar trials.
I want to provide them with stories of diverse individuals that exemplify the core values of our school: courage, community, craftsmanship, compassion, and curiousty.
Please consider helping me provide my students with read-alouds and library choices that will inspire them that no matter the color of their skin, zip code, financial status, religion, or race, their lives can make a significant mark on the world!
