My Students
Our students need to find a love for learning how to read. The stories in classical music have enthralled children for centuries. Help me bring these stories to life in my classroom and awaken these characters in my student's fertile minds.
The students at our public elementary school face tremendous economic and linguistic barriers.
Coming from an economically challenged neighborhood comprised of many ESL families, our students struggle to find all the resources they need to overcome these challenges. If they can find a desire to open a book, that desire can help take them anywhere they want to go.
My Project
Classical music has long brought characters to life in children's minds. The heroic young boy, Peter, outsmarts the hungry wolf in Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf. In Dukas's The Sorcerer's Apprentice, the young boy tries to outsmart his teacher, with incredible results. Tchaikovsky brings a classic love story to life (complete with an evil magician) with the story of Swan Lake. These and other stories, performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, will delight children in my music classroom and make a love of reading that much easier to cultivate.
With a budget of $100 for the entire year, there's no way I can build a classroom library by myself.
