This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember the first time you had to get in front of a large crowd of people? My students have not had much opportunity to practice reading and speaking in front of their peers.
My students are in the third grade in an inner city school in New York City.
Most of my students come from either shelters or single parent homes. Unfortunately many of their parents don't have a good education supporting them. Despite their home life, most of the children come to school eager to learn.
My Project
The karaoke machine and music will motivate my students to want to read. It will also allow them to practice their verbal skills (many receive speech and language services too). The children will be so excited as they are singing. It will also help my shy children open up and come out of their shell as they are with their peers reading the lyrics to the songs they are singing.
This donation will make such a difference to my students' self esteem.
They will be practicing speaking as they are reading and socializing with their classmates. Being able to speak publicly is a skill everyone should have.
