This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a Reading Recovery teacher who services the first graders who are falling behind. My school is locate in the eastern section of the Bronx. All of my children receive free lunch. My students come from homes where there is daily struggle to make ends meat.
I always try to find ways to make learning fun and interesting. I want my students to enjoy school and look at school in a positive way!! I see two guided reading groups on a daily basis for forty five minutes each. During the lesson, I show them that it is important for them not only to know how to decode but to also understand what they are reading. (which is the ultimate goal) I also try to get my students to see how important reading at home really is.
I saw an amazingly fun machine in Lakeshore that allows me to test my children's comprehension of the books we read by playing a game together. It looks like such a great idea. I really think that that they would love it. I also want to create my own lending library in my room where my students will be able to check out books and then return them. The take home baggies are a wonderful way to keep the books from getting damaged. The lending library cards will help me keep track of the books that are borrowed. I also saw some great incentive stickers and bracelets that would inspire my students to do the best job they could possibly do.
I am so excited about these wonderful resources that will make learning so much fun. Than you very much for taking the time and caring about others.
