My Students

My students reside in an urban city and are rough around the edges but have such great care and compassion for each other. They search for their own internal motivation to help them strive to reach their goals. They are full of questions, not in defiance, but in their own curiosity to learn, grow and develop into young adults.

They each are amazing individuals struggling in their adolescents to make correct choices and challenge their fears with a tenacious spirit to learn.

My Project

The books, Holes and The Outsiders, will be used by all the students to read in class with me in guided reading lessons. Without enough copies, students are not exposed to reading in the class. Reading benefits them and few of the students read outside of class, so it's important for them to engage in reading. Students will read with each other in small groups and with me in class. They will also do group work to build critical comprehension skills. Reading helps develop their thinking skills and helps with growth of word knowledge and vocabulary development. The books are valuable in the class.
