My Project

This captivating novel, based on a true story, transports readers to the rugged shores of San Nicolas Island, where a young girl named Karana must navigate survival, resilience, and solitude. By immersing ourselves in this rich narrative, students will not only deepen their appreciation for literature but also develop empathy, critical thinking skills, and a deeper understanding of human resilience.

By supporting this project, you will help create a dynamic and immersive learning environment where students can explore literature, culture, and the human experience with depth and empathy.

Together, we can inspire these exceptional students to become critical thinkers, empathetic citizens, and lifelong learners.

"Island of the Blue Dolphins" offers a poignant exploration of the human spirit and the power of resilience in the face of adversity. Through close reading, discussions, and interactive activities, students will engage with the text on multiple levels, analyzing characters, themes, and literary devices.

Set against the backdrop of Native American history, the novel provides a window into the traditions, customs, and way of life of the Nicoleño people. Through the eyes of the protagonist, students will experience the challenges of isolation, loss, and survival.

Analyzing literature requires critical thinking and effective communication. By engaging with "Island of the Blue Dolphins," students will hone their analytical skills, explore complex themes, and improve their writing through essays, reflections, and creative projects.

My 7th-grade Honor students are a vibrant and diverse group of learners who possess a genuine curiosity and passion for exploring new ideas and perspectives. They thrive in environments where they can actively engage with challenging material and make meaningful connections to their own lives and experiences. Many of my students come from multicultural backgrounds, and they bring a wealth of insights and perspectives to our classroom discussions.
