My students are eager to read at the same level as their peers. They face extra challenges due to limited English language skills, and for many, limited assistance at home.
My students come from a variety of backgrounds.
Some are newly arrived immigrants for which everything around them is new and different. Others are born in Virginia, but speak a language other than English at home. All of them are expected to work towards meeting grade level standards.
My Project
I am requesting a variety of resources to help make learning the different components of reading engaging and fun. My students are in a wide range of grades so I am constantly looking for new materials to support a wide range of standards.
For fluency: Partner Fluency Scripts and Hear Myself Sound Phones will add to the activities student can use with a partner while working on reading expression, speed, and accuracy.
For Reading Comprehension: the Building Comprehension Skills Activity Folders, Games, Library, Who, What, When, Where, Why and How?, Comic Connection Sequencing Game and Avalanche Mountain Author's Purpose Game provide hands-on activities at lower reading levels. These skills include summarizing, drawing conclusions, and asking questions.
For vocabulary: the Vocabulary Building Flip Books, Language Multilevel Folder Games and Reading Match-Ups will make learning about prefixes, plural nouns, ext. fun.
Please help me, to help my students bring their reading skills up to grade level standards.
While they are developing these skills, the materials I am requesting will help keep them engaged and excited about reading.
