Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My goal as a teacher was to help my students fall in love with reading. I wanted them to learn that when you open a book, your imagination is free to become the characters. I know that I have accomplished this goal when one day my students got mad and said "why can't you just let us read today?". All they wanted to do was spend more than the 20 minutes allowed to sit and read. My heart sang that day and I will never forget the looks on their faces as they asked.
Currently, we do not have a rug to sit and "just read" on. I feel that I could help more students love to read if they had a comfy spot to curl up with a book and read. We are requesting a large reading carpet that can be used for independent reading and whole group activities. My current students and my future students will truly appreciate having a special reading rug.
