FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Tallon's classroom raised $531
This project is fully funded
I teach 5 year old kindergarten in rural South Carolina. We are a Title One school with 93% of kindergarten students receiving free/reduced lunch.
Kindergarten is the foundation for learning, and it is often the beginning of students reading on their own. My goal is for my students to become lifelong learners and love reading. Listening to books on tape will help with their reading ability. A listening center will help to accomplish this goal. Each book that they listen to will help reinforce the skills that are being taught in class. Do to the fact that reading for pleasure at home is rarely modeled; I would like the opportunity to instill the love of learning and reading in my students. The listening library would help me do this. Most of my students come from single parent homes, where reading is not a priority and is rarely seen at home. As a teacher I want to ensure that my students get the chance to hear and read books all day long. I need to be able to supply my students with as many opportunities that I can for them to hear books, whether it is me reading to my students or having them visit the listening center.
With the listening center my students will be able to listen to a variety of great books on tape. I am certain that the new listening center will quickly become the favorite center in my classroom.
My class would have the chance to listen to at least two books a day on tape. I am certain the books I selected will help improve their reading comprehension levels. I am a firm believer that if a child sees and hears something they will remember it. The books will also help my sttudents who arrive at school as early as 7 AM. These students would have an additional opportunity to listen to books. They would be able to come in and pick out a book on tape and listen to it before school begins. This in return would help them to become better and successful readers.
Your support of this project will help guide 22 kindergarten students this year toward the goal of becoming lifelong readers. The impact over the years to come will be tremendous! Thank you for investing in the future of my students.
