This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a diverse group of learners who live in Jackson Heights, NY. They come from over a dozen countries across the globe. All of my students are either current or former English language learners. These middle schoolers work extremely hard and are diligently trying to improve their reading and writing in English.
My Project
These books will help my students become excited about reading again. They also have too much screen time and reading a physical book would serve as a nice break for their eyes. My goal is to show them how interesting literature can be by bringing it to life for them. They will also be able to discuss these novels with their peers to promote verbal language use. Exposure to these new books will also assist in expanding their ever growing vocabularies. I would like to send my 8th graders to high school, prepared with improved reading skills.
