Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a self-contained special education teacher in a title I Pre-K-8 school in the Bronx. I teach a bridge class consisting of grades 1 and 2 within the same classroom. The students in my class are energetic, curious, and enjoy learning. There are various disabilities within the classroom such as ADHD, Autism, Learning Disabilities, Emotionally Disabled, and Speech-Language delays.
Each student comes to school with their own beliefs, unique challenges, and struggles but always willing to engage in learning.
My Project
Reading happens throughout the day within my classroom. For students with disabilities it is important to support them with reading materials that are differentiated to their needs.
Due to their disabilities many students need extra support with their individual needs and unique learning styles.
Being a bridge requires me to have differentiated materials in order to support students learning on their level and meet them where they are at. All students should have the opportunity to find the love of reading with books they are able to read.
Reading does not come easy for students in my class and allowing them to have reading materials can begin an exciting journey for my students to find their love of reading.
