My students need a full class set of Among the Hidden, so that we can read as both a class and in small groups.

My Students
The obstacles my students face daily is mind boggling. From major learning gaps to significant language barriers, they amaze me with their willingness to continue. As their teacher, it is my responsibility to help them overcome these challenges in any way possible.
What we learn today becomes part of who we are tomorrow.
Creating life-long learners is critical to the future. With your generous donation, you will help my students improve their knowledge and understanding of the world around them.
My Project
Often you hear that students hate to read, but that is simply not true. Reading is a challenge for most students, so making it less independent and more social helps to ignite the desire. Among the Hidden is a wonderful book that will help them with this process. It is a very high interest read and contains understandable vocabulary, therefore making it easier to discuss and understand.
The reading process which takes place in small group allows for collaborative learning.
Simply stated, students work harder and understand more when working with their peers. When it's time for whole group reading and discussion, weaker readers are ready, their confidence is strong! We help students to understand the value of both the process of reading (critical thinking), and the outcomes of reading (knowledge). Therefore helping them see reading as part of the relationship between the life they have and the life they want to have!
