My students need a comfortable and organized place to read with a chair, book bins, and a book rack. Independent reading is a large part of our day and my students need to feel "at home" when engaging in a new story.
Welcome to 1st grade! We live in a very rural area where resources are scarce and poverty is prevailing. However, these twenty one students have an amazing opportunity and advantage to come to school in a safe environment where they can put their hands on technology that they may have never seen! Families do not have the means to provide these resources for their 21st century learner, but we are doing our best to provide them with the same opportunities other children their age have.
My Project
“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.” ― Dr. Seuss
This project will help my students by allowing my students to have comfortable seating that will aid in their learning and ability to focus during extended periods of time.
By having furniture in the room that creates comfort, students will be able to have objects that are familiar and calming. Students will be able to go to these places, read and feel at home. Therefore this will support a conductive learning environment. It allows students to have their own reading space while being mindful of other learners.
I would also like students to have individual book boxes so that if they find themselves lost in a good book they may keep it to finish later. Finally, I would like a book stand so that students can have easy access to stories that I have read aloud that they may want to reread!
