Reading Resource - Scholastic Magazine

My Students

5th grade is going to be amazing this fall! My new students are excited for the new year in a new flexible community environment. We will start off the year with 30-32 stellar students who are ready to learn and explore new things, find their voice, and enhance their community experience in the classroom.

A student-centered community environment, creating the best atmosphere for community voice and participation, and providing the right tools is key.

The students in my class are amazed at the great opportunity they will have this year in my Disney themed classroom, to have a student centered learning experiences, with a lot of hands on activities, being part of and understanding of a functioning community. With my style of teaching, I try very hard to help the students work through ideas and strategies outside of just textbooks and worksheets. This focus with the students help engage them to have fun while learning new things.

So, hats off to my new class! It's going to be an adventurous learning year filled with lots of teaching moments with life connections in all subjects. Did I mention they are amazing? Thought so!

My Project

Our class could really use an additional reading resource that is targeted to the 5th grade with some real connection to today's world. By adding the Scholastic Magazine to our reading routine, we can take it further with other ELA connections with writing assignments, acting out the plays, and adding great discussion content to our classroom community. Please help us add this to our class this year by donating to this project. The added resource would be an excellent activity for the whole class and something the students can look forward to with each new magazine. Thank you!
