My Project
Isn't any literature teacher's goal to help students fall in love with reading? My biggest desire is to create an environment where students feel safe, motivated, and confident to engage with books. As a Reading support teacher, most of my roster consists of students who struggle to see reading as enjoyable or purposeful. Many of them come from underresourced communities, which have impacted their learning for most of their lives. I have come to find that by transforming the appeal of my classroom, students' walls are more likely to come down.
My passion is to make reading feel less like a task and more like a choice.
Comfort reduces anxiety and a visually inviting space can help students associate reading with relaxation, ownership, and even joy. I want to create a space with soft lighting, comfortable seating, and high-interest books.
These reluctant readers deserve another chance, even in high school, to fall in love with reading again. They are resilient and capable; full of potential. Though many haven't been given the right tools or environment to thrive as readers, with your help, this reading corner can be a turning point for them. I dream that one day some of these students might say, "I used to hate reading, but my high school Literature teacher changed that for me". Thank you for considering!
