My students need 4 sets of books of high interest to improve their reading skills in a guided reading/ERE setting. Students can learn about new things and learn to read fluently!
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Matzkanin's classroom raised $475
This project is fully funded
My Students
We talk about being good readers and getting excited about reading. Students choose books that are "just right" and students enjoy when they have opportunities to discover new books. Students are motivated to develop their reading skills.
Students in our classroom have been identified as cognitively disabled.
While they have a disability, they have a strong motivation to learn, and are curious about new concepts. Although learning can be difficult, these students love a new challenge, and are willing to work hard.
My Project
The books will be used to develop reading skills. Introduced in a small guided group setting with the teacher, usually a 2:1 ratio, students read the books while using taught specific strategies to decode unfamiliar words and make connections to the the text. Students will then use these books as their just right books and practice them during independent reading. These books can stay in the classroom and be used for years to come!
The classroom has many copied- paper books, but not as much high quality literature with binding.
Students will read using real books, and share and read them with other teachers and students. Expanding our library with high interest books will make the classroom a better place.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
