This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This is my first year teaching. The school I work at is a Title I school located in Queens. The children receive free breakfast and lunch.
We have a very diverse population of students at the school.
Fifty percent of my students are ELLs who all come from different backgrounds. Also, thirty percent are below grade level in reading. Even though my pupils face either speaking, writing or reading challenges, they are still trying every day to achieve their academic goals.
My Project
These books are of high interest for fourth-grade readers. The students keep trying to take them out of our school library. The book sets are for fourth-grade reading levels which fit the needs of our students. They are beneficial to help students with their reading skills and help them move reading levels. They discuss topics that are related to their daily lives and for their enjoyment. The Babysitters Club series, Smile series, Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, and Bad Guys series are relatable to their personal lives which makes it interesting for the students. Having these books in our classroom would help our students improve their reading skills.
