My Students

A book can take you to any place imaginable! My students love to travel through literature but need help buying a ticket! Let's buy them a ticket to the circus through an amazing story!

Our school is a small public school with students from many different countries around the world, with varied life experiences.

Being small is an advantage, in which all the students know each other well, work together and take care of each other. Parents help in the classroom and the community spirit flourishes. Students share books with one another and discuss what they read in literature circles. Some students have the means to have books at home and others go to the library to get their books. We are currently reading the same books together and studying so may aspects of text together. My students love to read and are making incredible connections to stories we have completed together with ones we are currently reading. We would love to receive a new hardback book, the first hardback book most of these children will hold, written by an author whose writing style we have not enjoyed yet!

My Project

I am asking for a class set of books that the students can read together as a class and discuss all together. I am also asking for the book on cd so that they can listen to it at times. This story is highly engaging and is filled with things to discuss. This story is full of figurative language that the students can study and transfer to their own writing. It also allows for research projects about gorillas and circuses. The possibilities are endless! We have read a few chapters from my son's book and they have fallen in love with the story. It will also be the first hardback book that these students will be able to take home and read.

Reading is a ticket to experience another world, another life, to escape our own lives for a time and use our imagination.

My students would love a ticket to "The One and Only Ivan." They would love to travel to his world and experience his life for a short time! Help us buy this ticket! Hundreds of students will read this story each year and take this journey!
