Reading Plus Reading for A+ Learners with Special Needs

Help me give my students a chance to recoup reading skills lost during virtual learning and make progress on their IEP goals.

My Students

My students are a group of the most wonderful young adults diagnosed with intellectual/developmental disabilities/Autism you will ever meet. They live life to the fullest. They range in age from 14 to 21 and can stay with me until 21 years old. We are located in what is a high poverty high school and more than half the students come from low income homes.

They enjoy learning and greet each day with a smile and positive attitude.

They love taking part in all that high school has to offer and make friends wherever they go. My students tackle their classwork much like they tackle life, all in with a positive attitude. They enjoy being at school and learning new skills.

My students were severely impacted by the move to virtual learning and need all the assistance they can get to catch up and master IEP goals.

My Project

With the pandemic taking its toll on all learners, students with special needs were hit exceptionally hard in the area of reading. Students with special needs require consistent and explicit instruction in reading . All of my students will be returning in-person for the 2021-2022 school year and will need every intervention I can get my hands on to help them regain lost skills and move forward with IEP goal progress.

Reading Plus would be a great compliment to the the district-mandated curriculum we will be using.

Students would be able to use the program at home unlike our district-mandated curriculum.
