Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Although many of my students come from a background of challenge, I see kiddos demonstrate kindness and caring in my classroom when they have the opportunity to work in groups and support each others' learning in a positive way.

I have the privilege of teaching a fantastic group of 5th graders from Colorado whose families are committed to a great school for their children, as well as fostering a wonderful school community.

Everyday I look forward to supporting them in their incites, break through's, and on going challenges that allow them to show such amazing growth.

My Project

Using Scholastic's Weekly Science Reader, DynaMath, as well as Super Science will tap students' talents and inspire them to consider careers in science and technology. Students bring a variety of talents to the science classroom and this monthly magazine will serve as a springboard for discussion among all grade level kids as it will be shared among all 5th grade classrooms! Additionally, these topical periodicals provide grade level structured texts that focus student interests on current events to better achieve grade level learning goals as well as reinforce and support understanding of given content.

Many of my students are expected to be well versed in the use of technology however they often lack the funds or ability to access it and by providing simple tools such as headphones students can successfully engage their school provided Chromebooks with optimal focus when the opportunity presents itself.

A number of phonemic and literacy based online programs demand the use of such tools to fully benefit from it's value.

Finally, the sports equipment will allow students in our grade to play a structured visceral activity with equipment they would not otherwise have provided. I look forward to "refereeing" practice or games either before school or during recess in an effort to better support a positive community atmosphere as well as allow for the necessary athletic activity that all young learners need to balance long periods of being sedentary.
