This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have the pleasure of working as a bilingual special education teacher. My students, when compared to typically developing peers, need additional repetitions to learn the same skills that other students learn. Utilizing high-interest technology allows them to access the curriculum so they can enhance their learning.

91% of the students at our school are economically disadvantaged and they do not have the opportunity to routinely engage in learning using advanced technology.

They come with a wealth of cultural understandings and familial knowledge that need to be accessed in innovative ways to enhance their chances of succeeding.

My Project

Students who have dyslexia often struggle reading at grade level. This inhibits their ability to engage in meaningful learning in the general education classroom setting. Many of these students are able to process information, participate in conversations regarding stories, and work with their peers on grade level.

The largest encumbrance to this participation are deficits in phonological skills which can be accommodated for, therefore allowing access.

By having a tool like the ExamReader Reading Pen, students will be able to stay in the classroom with their peers and truly participate in the learning process.
