My Students
The students in my classes are a diverse group, from a multitude of backgrounds. Some are from families where they will be the first to attend college, while others are from families where paying the monthly bills is a challenge.
All students deserve an opportunity to create skills that they can take with them into the work force or to college.
They are eager for life skills that can help them, as they finish high school and move forward in their lives.
My Project
After reading Donalyn Miller's book The Book Whisperer I knew something in my classroom had to change: my students are not readers, and it is difficult to deeply analyze literature without a reading background. I must create a classroom of readers!
In an effort to help my students become readers, I am building a larger classroom library.
Each of these books is recommended reading for Advanced Placement Literature and Composition and is a high-interest book for students.
Students will be tasked with reading a series of books each semester, and these books will provide them access to works of literary merit that are modern titles.
