My Students
As a Fifth Grade teacher, it is my goal to prepare my students for their futures. What better way than immersing them in great literature? I hope by reading these great texts we can learn about history, humanity, and continue to fall deeper in love with reading.
My students attend a great school in Upstate South Carolina.
Our school is made up of a diverse group of learners. They come from all walks in life, carrying with them different interests, gifts, and talents. They are eager and excited Fifth Graders, ready to learn all they can about our world.
My Project
We are going to be starting guided book clubs using these four titles: Number the Stars, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, Milkweed, and Devils Arithmetic. These books will be used across two Fifth Grade classes as we partner together to dive into book clubs. Students will partake in book reports and lots of history learning during and after the project. The book clubs will directly align with our study of World War II.
Each of these books tell a story of this time in our history in ways which build heart and empathy and content.
We will be immersed in great literature that supports our learning in Social Studies. Students will not only learn about this time period, but will also experience this time period and will walk away understanding that history is about humanity.
