My students need post-its and highlighters as we teach them to be readers of history. With these simple tools my students can learn how to read historic documents.
Many teens find history to be dull. By exposing them to as many historical documents as possible, it is goal to show them that the past is more the "4 dead guys on a mountain".
We use both primary and secondary sources in my classroom to bring that story to life.
History class is like watching a reality show.
My school is a pre-k to 8th grade school.
Many of the students I teach have been in the school from age 4. My students are mixed ability levels in both reading and writing. I have 2 autistic classes with students both on and off spectrum. By combining ASD students with non-ASD students we see amazing growth in those with ASD.
My Project
I use stations in my classroom. With these materials I can have students highlight readings. This skill helps weaker readers keep focus.
The post-its will allow my students to share thoughts about documents with their classmates.
It is the goal in my room to expose students to as many documents as possible so they can discover a love of history.
For many of my students, they have just moved to this country.
For those born here, most don't feel a connection to the history of the country.
These gifts would allow me and my co-teacher to share our love of history with a new generation.
