Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As a dedicated educator working with young children, my goal is to create a classroom environment where students not only build strong academic foundations but also develop into kind, empathetic, and emotionally intelligent individuals. The books and materials I’ve selected reflect this mission. Each title has been carefully chosen to support social-emotional learning, build self-awareness, and promote meaningful conversations about feelings, differences, and resilience.
Books like Kindness is My Superpower, The Invisible String, and Just Now I Feel Angry help students understand and manage their emotions in a healthy way.
Stories such as The Girl Who Never Made Mistakes and The Magical Yet encourage a growth mindset and remind students that mistakes are part of learning. Titles like I Am Enough, Where Are You From?, and The Kids’ Book of Diversity foster inclusivity, respect for differences, and self-confidence.
I’ve also included engaging and humorous series like There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed… and the On Strike box set to keep students excited about reading, while subtly reinforcing important life lessons. Additionally, the Reading Comprehension Daily Practice Journal will strengthen foundational literacy skills for my early readers.
These books will not only enrich our classroom library but will also support daily lessons, group discussions, and our calming corner for self-regulation. They will help me grow as an educator by giving me powerful tools to teach empathy, compassion, and effective communication—skills that are just as important as reading and math.
