My students need more books about science and book bags to take home books to read with their family.

My Students

Do you remember the first time you read a book to your family? Do you remember the expression on your parents' faces? Many of my students have never seen this expression. The other students that have seen this expression do not see it that often. This is due to the lack of books they have at home.

I teach first grade in a Title One school.

Many of my students lack the necessary materials at home that they need to complete assignments and homework. My students are extremely eager to learn. They have a great love for reading. As the year progresses their love for reading grows more and more. I do not want this love to fade because they do not have the necessary materials at home.

My Project

The resources I am requesting for my class are things that will allow their love for reading to continue growing. I have requested book bags. These will be used so my students are able to take books home to read with their families. Seeing the reaction on their parents' faces will make them want to continue reading and become better at it. Practicing more and more with reading will also help their writing. Reading and writing go hand in hand. These resources will make them want to continue reading. It will get their families more involved. I also asked for Magic School Bus books. I have students that really enjoy reading these books. The books I requested are books I do not have in the class. The students that read these books did not enjoy reading as much at first. Since they've read this series their love for reading has grown. I want to continue fostering this love. I do not want it to fade. The students will use the notebooks to journal their progress.

Many of my students are unable to read for the assigned twenty minutes at night because they do not have the resources to do so.

Having these book bags will allow my students to check books out each night. My students and I will also be able to journal about their progress with the notebooks. I want my students to succeed and become the best readers they can be. The resources I've requested will allow my students to succeed.
