Reading On My Own!

My students need two TAG reading systems by Leap Frog with batteries to enhance their literacy development.

My Students

Remember the exhilaration of the first time you were able to pick up a book and read the story all by yourself and not have to wait for an adult to enter the exciting adventures in the book? Now that feeling can come to my students with the TAG reading system.

My students are part of an early childhood program for students who are at-risk for low academic performance.

Most of my students have a low social-economic background and do not have access to 21rst century technology in the home. Additionally, many students have had little to no exposure to books and stories prior to starting school and once they discover these stories and adventures they want me or my assistant to read to them all the time! We cannot always read to them as requested as their are 15 of them and two of us, which means we are often not available to read to an individual upon request.

My Project

The TAG reading system will allow students to enjoy the adventures of books independently. The TAG reading system is a technological advancement in which I can download books from the Internet and store them on the reading system. When a student is ready to enjoy a story then they will simply choose a title and use the computerized pointer to point to the words on the page and the reader will read the story to them! Imagine the literacy development that will occur as they are able to explore books in more detail independently. In addition, the battery charger and rechargeable batteries will ensure that students are able to use the TAG system long term without restriction if I have no funding to replace batteries!

This is a chance for my students to expand their literacy experiences independently as well as begin their introduction to technology and 21rst century learning!

Reading is an excellent resource to expanding vocabulary and literacy skills as well as the imagination and dreams of a child!
