Our students are determined and focused in their learning. They are inquisitive and have a sense of wonderment. They are at a stage of curiosity and are ready to crack the code of learning to read. Let’s help them crack that code and help fund our leveled library
The use of leveled readers in the classroom is essential for how children learn to read.
The practice of using leveled readers is part of a process called guided reading which is based on the belief that the optimal learning for a reader occurs when they are assisted by an educator to read and understand a text with clear but limited guidance. Leveled books are part of the process of guided reading and is an essential tool in the classroom. Our students have limited resources at home so the leveled readers will be used in the classroom as well as sent home for them to practice their reading skills. The leveled classroom library will help students identify their reading levels without the frustration of searching through books and allow them the independence to master their reading skills. The bins and labels allow them to see the progression of their learning as they strive to move and improve their levels.
By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student’s reading level by giving them access to books on their level, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement. Students will be able to make meaning of text by using leveled text and have a sense of accomplishment. Their love of reading will be enhanced and the achievement gap will narrow as we foster a love of reading.
