The fifth graders in my class are bright, creative, and excited about learning. Throughout the year, my class works on creative, and innovative projects. These often involve technology.
The students in my class enjoy creating their own stamp on the world through technology.
Many of them are very tech savvy. At school they practice coding, writing, math, and language skills using the computers. They do a variety of projects throughout the year to show their understanding of technology, and to help them prepare for their futures in a world where understanding of technology is vital.
My Project
I will use these materials in my classroom to promote foundational reading skills. I am asking for class sets of The Best/Worst Christmas Pageant Ever, and Love, Ruby Lavender. Both of these books allow students to gain compassion for those around them, and an insight into how others lives may differ from their own.
My students will look for context clues, make inferences, and focus on building their personal fluency.
They will read out loud, as well as silently. They will also complete quizzes and assignments that will promote their comprehension abilities, and allow them to discuss what they are reading with other members of the class.
