The students I work with are, on average, several levels below their grade level in reading. Many come to my classroom having no books at home, and are not familiar with printed materials. They are often hesitant and uncomfortable when they begin the process of learning to read since many don’t have experience with it. Having a comfortable and inviting reading space in my class room helps my students feel more at ease and familiar with print materials, which makes them feel more confident and less overwhelmed. Having a space where they can relax and explore books encourages their interest and love of books.
