My Students
My students are amazing, curious, wonderful kids who come into the classroom everyday with endless energy and limitless questions. They just want to learn and have fun with their new community.
My school is populated with approximately 230 children, many who receive free or reduced lunch.

My Chinese immersion classroom has a mixture of one-third non-English speakers, one third bilingual students, and one-third non Chinese speakers. 60% of them are on free and reduced lunch. Due to the budget cuts throughout the years, our classroom resources are only available when purchased by ourselves. I believe that to be an effective teacher, I need to invest in my job and provide the necessities to make myself an effective teacher, as well as make learning fun and engaging for my students. But one can only invest so much with a mediocre salary.
My Project
One of my colleague has this really cool reading nook in her classroom and every time we walk by, I drool to have something like that for my students.
Reading is essential but a cool and comfy reading area will entice readers to pick up a book to read during idle time.
The bean bag chair for my students small bodies will be the perfect area to go to throughout the day as well as during center time. Children will have pillows to cushion their heads and the rug will offer warmth in the otherwise cold laminate floors. And what is a reading area without more books?! The non-fiction books chosen are at kindergarten level. The books would need book bins and the kid-height book case so the children would be able to reach easily for them.
Reading will be so much more attractive with this cool reading nook. A nook to hook more reading.
