This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a public school in Washington Heights, NYC. This year I will be focused on teaching reading and writing to three groups of 5th graders. One class has students with special needs, one general ed, and the other class is predominantly English Language Learners. Our school has limited funding available. Since my room will be focused on literacy I would love to have flexible seating options and reading spaces for my students to get comfortable in the classroom!

My Project

This year I want to make my classroom environment as inviting and comfortable as I can for my students! I am the only ELA teacher for 5th graders this year and I want my room to stand out. I would like for students to look forward to walking in, grabbing a good book or a writing pad, and choosing an appropriate work space. I feel strongly that flexible seating and the items I have chosen will help me create the space I am looking to provide my students with. I know that with the help of donors I can accomplish my goal of having reading spaces that my students will enjoy!
