Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. I greet them daily with a good morning and a hug. I want them to know I believe in them and they can do anything.
My scholars are bright and energetic!
I would like to make my classroom as inviting and warm as possible. This is where we spend each day so it is our second home. Our school is one big family. We look out for each other and are always willing to give a helping hand. In our class, it's okay to make mistakes, as long as we learn from them. We say please and thank you and always remember to be polite. We can't control what others say but how we react to it. It is okay to get upset, but not okay to hurt others. We give respect to earn respect and we treat others how we want to be treated. I am very fortunate because I am able to go to work every day to students who are my world.
My Project
Each year the Florida Association for Media selects 15 notable books to be the Sunshine State books for the new school year. This is a huge program for 3-5 grade students. My second graders have finished the Sunshine State Jr. books and are ready to read the next level. I would like to add the SSYRA books to my classroom to promote reading and get my students familiar with the program they will participate in for the remainder of their elementary school years.
"Children should learn that Reading is pleasure, not just something that Teachers make you do in School"-Beverly Cleary
Each year my goal is to instill a love of reading in my students. One method is by using motivational programs such as the Sunshine State program. This project will allow my students to read the Sunshine State books in the classroom and make them more accessible. My students will use these books to discover new authors and characters.
The Sunshine State program is an exciting way to get our second graders reading more books and growing as individual learners.
