it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My scholars are amazing! Our school is in a low social-economic area and we were hit very hard by Hurricane Harvey. Our school was extensively damaged and the apartments that surround the school were also. My school and community are in the process of rebuilding after Hurricane Harvey’s destruction. I am slowly replacing supplies that will my scholars need to be successful in the classroom. Despite the hardships they experience, my scholars have an amazing capacity to learn and to succeed.
My fear for my scholars is that they will suffer even more after the trauma of Hurricane Harvey due to a lack of resources.
Our school is located between two apartment communities. As a result, the turnover is high and will continue to be so, due to the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey. I want my scholars to have an enriching and fulfilling educational experience despite displacement.
My Project
My scholars need two iPads for use during technology work stations. The scholars in my school have limited to no resources to utilize outside of school. Having access to the iPads during technology work station time will allow my scholars to have personal access to online applications that will help foster their learning. The applications will allow them to build fluency and number sense. As many of you know, second graders are enthusiastic learners, but not the most careful of caretakers and accidents happen. The screen protectors and protective cases will help guard against accidents.
Having protection for our iPads will allow my scholars to truly enjoy their learning without fear of causing damage.
Being able to access programs and applications without worry of breaking the iPads will allow them to truly appreciate the technology. The iPads, screen protectors and protective cases, will afford my scholars the opportunity to become technologically savvy, while building essential skills.
