Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our morning begins when my first graders walk into the room laughing, talking, and bustling to get ready for another great learning day.
My school is considered an inner-city school.
Most of our students are identified as economically disadvantaged. All of our students participate in the National Free Lunch Program. My class consists of 24 first grade students. They are eager learners and try their best to achieve their dream. As their teacher, I want to give them the tools to enrich their learning experience.
My Project
We need paper to make copies of take-home reading books. Our reading program does not come with "take-home" books but instead, there are master pages that we make copies of. Since my students are first graders, they learn everything they need in order to be fluent readers in class. However, learning how to read cannot happen without practice. To practice reading at home, my students need reading materials that focus on target sounds that they are learning. Due to budget cuts, paper for books is not available or provided by the school anymore. I cannot stress enough the importance of take-home books for my students to practice reading. Most of my students do not have the resources at home to practice their reading skills so the copies they take home will benefit greatly to help them learn.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
