My students live in an out of the way town in Alaska. Many are Alaska natives with a strong sense of culture and pride. Although our community is lucky to be surrounded by nature, we are a Title I, low-income school.
It is important for students to develop a love of reading as early as possible.
When students enjoy reading, their reading skills will improve along with many other valuable skills. Harry Potter is the perfect way to help kids develop their love of reading!
My Project
These materials will encourage students to read and develop a love of reading. When students can find a series to love, such as the Harry Potter book series, they are likely to read more books. There is magic in reading, and I have seen students become better readers through this series. I will use the materials in this project to provide students with a series that they can read from start to finish. Instead of reading just one book, they will have the opportunity to read seven. This project encourages students to read, which in turn helps students in every other subject.
