Help me give my students the gift of reflection, review, and the joy of sharing their perspective when it comes to reading a novel. The reading log will allow students to express their thoughts, ideas, and opinions.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Anselmo's classroom raised $586

My Students
The school I teach in is a diverse, unique, and a special school. Our school houses over 400 students from pre-school up through 6th grade. The school I work at is a Title I school with over 86% of our students receiving a free or reduced-price lunch. Our school is considered a cluster school, which means that we support students who enter our country and are placed in our district. We usually have over a hundred refugees come to our school yearly. Our students thrive on the diversity and multiculturalism that is influenced and felt in our school. We accept, we grow, and we learn from one another.
We come from a very low socioeconomic status.
Many of our students lack the resources and support that are needed to continue their learning at home. My students hunger for knowledge, expression, and to learn more about diversity and the world through new lenses that we cannot always provide. I cannot wait to supply my students with new literacy that will spark their curiosity, connect them personally, and give them a foundation in which to grow and respond.
My Project
I have several novel sets that will be going to and from school throughout this upcoming school year. I have asked for support in funding mesh bags that will allow students to return and collect new novels during the school year.
In addition, I would love for my students to hold in their hands an actual reading log that will allow them to share their opinions, thoughts, and ideas with each book that they finish.
Reading is one part of the learning process, but reflecting and sharing one's perspective allows a child to gain understanding and a deeper knowledge of the author's perspective.
