My Students
Remember the first time you were able to read a book by yourself and the confidence you felt. I want my students to have the same feeling and these books can help do that.
My students are just beginning to read and they are eager to learn to read.
Many of the students do not have books at home or parents that read to them. The only place they are exposed to books and reading is at school. They would be so excited to have more books to read on their individual reading level.
My students come from a diverse socioeconomic community. Our school is a Title 1 school with 75% of the children being on free or reduced lunch. The children come from a variety of ethnically diverse backgrounds ranging from Native American to Hispanic to Asian to Caucasian. The children would be able to relate to the children in this series and the different family structures.
I teach reading lab but do not have that many leveled readers. As in any school, my students read at different levels. Our school district is financially unable to buy us more books. This series would be a great addition to the reading lab. I want my students to love reading and feel successful.
My Project
To be a successful reader, a child has to read on their own level. This series of books will ensure this. The only reading that is done by many of the students is here at school. These books would not only help my students increase their oral reading skills but also their reading comprehension skills which will help them to become successful readers. This series would provide me more books to teach with. My students need these books to help them become successful readers in life. Every child deserves a book that they enjoy and can read.
By making donations to this project, you will be helping my students become better readers.
These books will be utilized in independent oral reading practice as well as in guided reading groups.
