This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are an enthusiastic, imaginative group of fifth graders. They are living in an inner-city community. Many are living in shelters. Some are English Language Learners and others have an Individualized Educational Plan. There are many students who have repeated a grade. Most face challenges both inside and outside of school on a daily basis. Despite these challenges, they love learning. They work hard every day in school and at home. They work with classmates to problem solve. They have goals and are working hard to achieve them.
My Project
These books will engage my students in reading and thinking about the books they read. They will want to talk about these books and share their ideas. The language is sophisticated. The artwork is beautiful. These books will allow us to do an author study.
Mr. Van Allsburg is an author whose endings always have a twist.
These twists make them particularly engaging. They really have to focus while listening to these stories to understand them.
Using picture books for children enables them to focus on meaning and use all reading strategies as they listen.
These books will let my students experience the joy of reading.
