Literacy with an attitude is the key for English Language Learners- can you help empower them?
I teach English as a second language in a Title I school. As an ESL teacher, I teach middle school students from grades 6-8 as well as elementary students in grades 4 and 5. Due to recent cuts in the district, funds for additional materials are not readily available, and the parents in this school cannot afford to assist.
I believe that providing students with exiting and interesting opportunities to read and enjoy reading is the key to empowering them to take charge of their own literacy education. When students are excited about reading, they can become inspired and enabled to overcome their socio-economic limitations and strive for success.
I need a classroom set of Time for Kids and READ magazines. My students come from diverse backgrounds and it is important to provide a variety of materials to capture their wide range of interests. A classroom set of Student Thesaurus would also be helpful for vocabulary enrichment and language development.
You can make a difference for these students! Your assistance will give my students the materials and opportunities they need to become excited about reading! Reading is the key to education and success in today's world. Please help me give these students a brighter future.
