Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember how exciting it was to receive something in the mail? I want my students to feel that same enthusiasm when their Scholastic News Magazines are delivered to school. I know they will be excited to share their knowledge when they take home their own copy of Scholastic News.
I teach at an urban school in East Los Angeles.
We are a Title I school where our students are receiving free and reduced lunch. The majority of our student population is Limited English Proficient. They really enjoy learning and are excited about any hands-on opportunities we can provide. There are a diversity of living arrangements and family structures in our school. Although some of my students have outside challenges, they are hard workers and enthusiastic about learning.
My Project
I am requesting 26 copies of Scholastic News magazine to enrich their learning to inspire them to read more and improve their literacy skills. I will use Scholastic News as a positive way to engage my students in improving their literacy skills. I will be asking targeted questions to facilitate class discussion. This will give them exposure to non-fiction reading that is positive, engaging, and relates to real life experiences.
Scholastic News magazine provides real-life literature that supports positive choices and reinforces the excitement that comes from gaining new knowledge.
I believe this magazine subscription will be a great classroom resource that they'll be excited to share at home as well. The students will be excited to have something that's their very own. This will produce positive discussions at school and home.
