My students need exposure to books! Many students do not own books at home and only hear stories at school. A listening center will also give extra reading and listening opportunities for my non-English speakers.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are an eager bunch! They are ready to learn and take on new challenges. This year has been great getting to know each one of them and learning how to work as a community. I am pleased with their progress so far and excited to see them grow!
Our school is a low-income school with over 98% of students qualifying for free lunch, with a high percentage of English Language Learners.
We are in an older school building and have been working hard to make it our own. Although it is an older building, we are loving the classroom and outdoor space.
As we learn as a class and start building as a school, I know we will continue to flourish and build up students who work hard, learn everything they can, always do their best, help others, and success will follow them!
My Project
A listening center will give students exposure to literature. Many students come from low-income households that do not have books at home. Research has shown the difference between students from affluent households have more exposure to books and language before they enter Kindergarten. A listening center will help students who do not have the exposure at home to receive the opportunity in multiple variations at school.
Over half the class are English Language Learners.
A listening center will give them additional exposure to English, vocabulary, and stories familiar to students of English Language background. They will be able to hear stories repeated and become familiar with the words printed in the text.
Half of students from low‑income households
