My Students
As a child I remember Christmas Day being one of the best days of the year. Being with my family and opening up tons of wrapped presents. Unfortunately, that ideal is not common these days due to the current economic battle we are all facing.
My students are a group of the most influential individuals I know.
Though they face academic and emotional difficulties at the fourth grade level, their true character shows through when we are sharing experiences and learning in the classroom. The school in which they attend is low poverty. A high percentage of students receive free and reduced lunch. For many, they do not have many chances to venture outside of their homes due to financial difficulties. I want to be able to provide my students with as many experiences as possible! The needs of my students vary tremendously. Some have severe learning difficulties, while others emotional. I want to do the most I can to help them succeed in this world.
My Project
The resources I have requested for my classroom will serve a variety of purposes. Not only will students in my classroom be excited, but other students throughout the building will be as well. I have requested a variety of levels of guided reading books. My district has just adopted the Fountas and Pinnell program and I am so excited to begin it. However, due to budgetary issues teachers are not getting much money, if any, to purchase materials. The CDs, tub of letters, pocket charts, game, and sentence strips will allow me to organize meaningful center rotations while I am working with different guided reading groups. The small group instruction will allow me to pinpoint strengths and weaknesses in each child and provide them opportunities to practice these skills/strategies on a daily basis.
It breaks my heart every year to find out that my students cannot afford to buy books at home.
It is my duty as a professional educator to do whatever I possibly can to provide my students with the resources to assist them with reading. Reading spans across the content areas. It is my moral obligation to provide my students with engaging lessons that are going to stick with them and assist them with the learning process. Please donate to this worthy cause. We need your help!
