My Students
Our school is located on the corner in gang territory in South Los Angeles. It resides in one of the lowest income zip codes in Los Angeles. Our student body consist of children that are homeless, children from broken homes, children being raised by single mothers, grandparents raising children, and children that have been exposed to trauma.
In spite of these obstacles our students come to school eager to learn and to show us what they have learned.
I Love that our students are happy in spite of their circumstances. Our students are eager to participate in our Reading Challenges, Science Fair, and any other special academic events we hold. The best part of our school is seeing a student who is excited when they move from one reading level to another.
My Project
Many of our students are reading below grade level. We strive to make reading exciting and pleasurable for our students. We encourage our students to look at reading like going on an adventure, to get into the character of the book and experience what is being told in the story. Our students create Wishlist of books from the Scholastic Book Fair. They choose books they are interested in and I believe our students will read these books.
Please help us by donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.
