Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This September, I will begin working in a Title 1 school with 75 new fifth graders, but with very limited resources. Because the school only opened 5 years ago, this will be the first fifth grade class, which means no previous materials are available for our use. My students come from a diverse background and 67% are apart of low-income families. When children have to worry about conditions at home, school should be safe space for learning exploration, which is most often achieved through reading!
My students deserve adequate literacy skills that will help them succeed years beyond leaving my classroom.
This can only be accomplished through instilling passion and knowledge during their most critical years of learning. The children in my classroom are worthy of interesting and engaging texts that will not only provide an outlet for tough times, but lessons for years to come!
"If you don't like to read, you haven't found the right book!" -J.K. Rowling
My Project
Your generosity will contribute to the success of my students! When a child has access to books, they have access to a world beyond their imagination. A library is the heart of a classroom and enables children to open their minds. When young children become literate, they are not only doing well in class but closing the poverty gap as well.
Please help me fund a class of children who have the ability to become explorers, thinkers, and leaders of their community.
A small book can have a big impact on a young mind! My students and I appreciate your thoughtfulness.
